Can you update your Wii’s firmware by downloading it on a SD card and uploading it to to console?

I’m a Sony guy, but by cousins asked me to update their Wii. I don’t know if Nitendo is like Sony where you can download your firmware on the removable storage and then updating via removable storage (SD Card). So my question is can you download it to your SD Card and upload it to the Wii or you have to do it by WiFi connection?
If you can do it with the SD what’s the site? I’ve check the Wii site but nothing, anyways if yes please post the link…

You have to do it by Wifi, or put in a disk that requires a newer firmware (at which point it will install it straight from the disk).
