When rain is falling, put a bucket by the guttering of your home so that when the water runs off your roof, the bucket will collect it or you can channel your gutter to fill a water tank.

To collect rainwater in your garden, you can buy a water butt, this is a plastic, or metal ‘bin’ container, which you connect to your guttering down pipe. they are raised off the floor by a couple of feet, and have an attached tap for filling watering cans etc, by gravity.
They are available nationwide in garden centres, from your water company and places like Argos.
To save water usage in your home, make sure you have water saving washing machines and dishwashers (if you use one). Take showers not baths, and limit the amount of time you spend in them. modern loos have a water saving flush, but if your house has an old fashioned loo, then you may be able to put a brick or something heavy in the cistern, so that less water is used to refill, therefore less is used when flushing. I think one of the best water saving devices is a water meter – you pay for what you use, which is a good incentive.
