In your opinion, when should Christmas decorations be put up?

Justin H asked:

I’m not a huge fan of Christmas to begin with, and usually I’m sick and tired by all the Christmas decorations and Christmas music by about the first week of December at the latest.

I don’t do any decorating at home, and I don’t let my employees put up the decorations at work until after Thanksgiving – and I won’t put on the Christmas music until after Thanksgiving.

The day after Thanksgiving or later.

We put ours up the day after Thanksgiving.

After Thanksgiving for the home— but for a business probably in around two more weeks it wouldn’t hurt to put up decorations— if they do a nice job.

The general socitial opinion is that putting up decorations like angels and cherubs is to remind us that long ago a savior was born and also to remind us of the reason for the season. However, most people just want an excuse to go out, purchase ridiculously expensive gifts no one really needs, get drunk and rub up against co-workers at Christmas parties, and go to church once a year in hopes that they will be forgiven for a year’s worth of mistakes. Honestly, I think it is ridiculous to put up a tree and lights the day after thanksgiving. It’s way to early, in my opinion. I think decorations should be put up no earlier than the first week of December. Otherwise, wrapping gifts, and assembling an 8-foot fake tree is just another excuse to get out of working.

lol, maybe its just me because I’m a huge x-mas junkie. the lights, the atmosphere, the smiles on everyone faces!! makes you wanna join the celebration. i usually but mine up about the time everyone is thinking about doing it, roughly somewhere in November. try after Thanksgiving

There are two schools of thought regarding turning lights on.

1. The day after Thanksgiving (plus or minus a day or three) is an acceptable time to turn lights on.

2. The first of December is a good day to turn lights on (or anytime thereafter).

If you have a ton of lights to install, go ahead and start putting them out now and have them ready for your light up date.

At home we always put the Christmas tree and all the other decorations up on Christmas eve. Everyone puts theirs up so early and by Christmas their tree is all droopy and sad looking! We all sat round and put them up and then watch Life of Brian!

In previous years, I have always put up my decorations in late November, but last year I was due to have my baby boy on November 20th, so I put them up before my due date. But he was born on December 4th! LOL. Now I will be putting them up much later, as I will be doing his birthday celebrations first, then putting up the christmas decs about a week or 2 later. Which I actually think is quite nice. I dont think they should go up too early, as it kinda takes the magic away. At least I have an excuse to resist all the glitter and sparkle until later now, as it is so tempting for me to put stuff up as soon as the shops do, which is waaay to early!!!!

I used start putting out our Christmas decorations, slowly, the beginning of December, with the tree going up about the 15th. Our littlest daughter’s birthday is Dec. 3rd, so now, since we got her, I never put out any Christmas decorations until after that.

Christmas is my favorite holiday, but even I have my limits. In this day in age it’s like people can’t just do one holiday at a time… but I do!! I do not touch Christmas until the weekend after Thanksgiving. I mean, seriously… aren’t we busy enough?

My decorations go up the day after Thanksgiving,. The tree doesn’t go up until the first or second week in Dec. With animals around you can never be to sure.

The day after Thanksgiving.

My family tradition is to always do it the day after Thanksgiving.

Whenever I want to put them up, I don’t care what anyone else says on the matter. Heck if I want them up all year I’ll have them up all year. Actually I do have a couple of things up and they have been up for 7 years because I like them.

If I had the room I’d have a secret Christmas room where I could have decorations up all year just for the fun of it.

I think the day after Thanksgiving is the most appropriate time. I have been known to do it earlier though.

(((hugs)))

Not sure when Thanksgiving is (please forgive me as we don’t have Thanksgiving in Australia) but I think no earlier than the 1st of December. Every year i notice that shops are putting up Christmas decorations earlier and earlier. Well, actually, not just Christmas but for any occassion like Easter, Valentines etc Now, what shops do is as soon as one occassion has passed, they prepare for the next. This year they put out Easter eggs far too early. I saw the cadbury cream eggs and I thought “Yuck, they are still selling them from last year!”. This was at the front of the shop and when i moved to the back of the shop I saw two shelves of eater eggs. And that is when I realised that it was for this year. This was just after Valentine’s day in February!
