I have thought about that very thing myself. I play on full tilt and had a conversation with jenn Harman once about this. She said it is a long, tedious grind and you have to build a bankroll and be patient. Most of all when you are having a bad session, dont give up. Keeping good records is extremely important. There is no guarantee of making $200 per day

It depends on the job you currently have. If the chance for advancement is there with your current job and you get benefits and all then keep poker as a side job. If the job you are in sucks and you have no chance for advancement then $52,000. yearly for working an hour or two a night is definitely the way to go. Especially if you don’t have dependants and can afford to eat pasta every night then it’s not that bad to take a stab at it. If you do make it big then great, you’ve done the right thing. If you don’t make it then you can go back to your $40,000. year job.

honestly this is a silly question because the answer is obvious to anyone…if you could make $200 in an hour or two with no risk and have the rest of the time in the day to yourself, as opposed to working hours at a day job and making less money, you should definitely play poker
the issue here is that there is no guarantee in poker, and you have to look at long run results, not the day-to-day…if you are a winning player and your past results on the side have shown it AND you are losing money as a result of your day job(if you have less time to play you are losing money in the long run if you are a winning player), then maybe you could consider it, if the lifestyle of gambling professionally suited you

To decide to play poker for a living, you need to make more money with poker, than you do with your job. And if so, yes! You should try to make a living with it. It’s a tough decision! and a tough job! Trust me, I know! I play poker for a living, but I use to have an other job before poker. If you are a winning poker player, if that type of life is for you, if you have a family and they support you. Go for it. A good test is to do it for a year. After that you should know where you stand. One of the good thing with having poker for job, is that you’re your own boss, and you can chose when to work, and how many hours. But it’s a lot more than one or two hours a day… It’s all about making good decisions, about which game to play, where to play, when to play, when to quit and when keep playing for several hours. If you can do that, you might have find a new job. But always keep in mind if that’s doesn’t work for you, you need to go back to your old job.

First of all you are lying. I deal poker and i play a lot of poker on the side and i don’t know anyone who wins every single day. No matter how good you are you will have days where you will lose money playing, not even pros win every time they play. Now it is a lot different playing for extra money you have, and playing for the rent money, and i don’t play consistently enough to be a pro. And even in a 2-5 no limit game you will be at a table for some time (longer then an hour or two) to win enough money for the day. I sit at no limit games for 7-8 hours and if i make 300 dollars then i have had a good, if you walk out after 10 hours with 500-800 then you have been killing the table, most pots are going to be small and it can take some time for the right situation to come along to get a lot of money into the pot.

The short answer is “yes.” The little bit longer answer is, “I did.” However, the word “guaranteed” is way out of place. I have never, ever heard of any kind of guarantee associated with playing poker.
